Celebrating their 40th anniversary, DTE Energy Music Theatre, previously known as Pine Knob, is still rocking each summer. After four decades, DTE continues to be one of the largest outdoor venues in the country.

After anxiously sitting in your car for nearly two hours in backed up traffic on I-75, you spot the large green sign with exit 89 plastered across it. Your heart begins to skip a beat as you realize you have finally arrived.

After parking, you realize that trying to find your vehicle at the end of the night will be like finding a needle in a haystack. You continue to make your way towards the front ticket gates alongside hundreds of others and as you enter through your eyes dart towards the lawn to find an open area to sit.

This experience is familiar to those who have attended a concert at the DTE Energy Music Theatre. UM-Dearborn student Caitlyn Szykowski describes it as “an experience unlike any other.”

The venue remains to be successful because of the big name artists who return to their stage each summer. These artists bring in hundreds of thousands of people who continue to generate revenue for the establishment which plays a major role in keeping it going. “People from all over the state come here to see what it has to offer,” said Szykowski.

This summer DTE is expected to draw in all types of music lovers ranging from rock to rap and country. Throughout the next few months, artists of all genres will be taking the stage in front of thousands each weekend.

“Nothing beats a concert at DTE on a summer night. You enjoy the evening with friends while listening to great music outdoors,” said Jessica Krisko, UM-Dearborn student.
