It’s one of the most anticipated opening games of the weekend in college football: Michigan. Alabama. Dallas. That has a nice ring to it. In the largest domed stadium in the world, two historic football programs will square off.

The Cowboys Classic will officially kick start the college football season.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are coming off of a season in which they defeated the LSU Tigers in the BCS National Championship. The Michigan Wolverines defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Allstate Sugar Bowl 23-20 in overtime.

Both teams look to win this game even if Alabama is expected to win by 12 ½. The spread is 45 quite surprisingly. Alabama has a superb defense, as does Michigan. Each team’s offense isn’t half bad either.

Alabama is led by junior quarterback AJ McCarron. Running back Trent Richardson, who had the most reps last year, is on to the NFL along with wide receiver Marquis Maze.

Junior Eddie Lacy will look to be the starter behind McCarron with junior Kenny Bell possibly the top wideout. He had the most receptions last year behind the other graduated wide receivers. Alabama has talent and not a lack of depth at all; it’s just a matter of finding who will be the top guy for them.

Michigan is led by captain and quarterback Denard Robinson, a Heisman candidate. Safety Jordan Kovacs is the captain on defense. Roy Roundtree returns for the wide receivers along with Drew Dileo and Jeremy Gallon. Fitzgerald Toussaint is the head of the running backs with newcomer Thomas Rawls his backup.

On defense, Craig Roh, Will Campbell, Kenny Demens, and Desmond Morgan are the returnees and leaders. The Wolverines seem to have more experience offensively, but the game is going to come down to how the defenses stack up against each other. Both teams have high-powered offenses led by some magnificent quarterbacks. Some believe that Alabama will blow out Michigan.

Others are skeptical and believe in the Wolverines and will at least keep it close. However, the verdict around here is that Michigan will lose.

Win or lose, this game will come down to a matter of which defense will make the bigger plays. Denard should be his normal self and make the Crimson Tide defense look silly.

If Michigan can hold Alabama’s offense, the Wolverines have a shot at doing something that many don’t believe will happen; beating the defending champion Crimson Tide in Dallas. Wherever you are, you should be watching this historic and epic game. 7:00pm on ABC.

Hail to the Victors and Go Blue!
