This past Tuesday, October 23, featured District 5 vs. the Sports Heroes and Theta Tau (ΘΤ) vs. Hostile Takeover, both games ending in shutouts.
District 5’s defense made an exceptional effort, allowing the Sports Heroes first goal at the 11:06 mark of the first half. The defense fought hard the rest of the game, allowing three more in the first (9:15, 3:55, and 1:57) and three in the second (17:08, 5:08, 3:32). Just like in their game against the Blue Barracudas, the District 5 offense had quite a few scoring opportunities, but none able to deliver, as the Sports Heroes won, 7-0.
In the second game, Theta Tau took on Hostile Takeover. Hostile Takeover pushed deep into Theta Tau’s zone, getting the first goal of the game at 17:13, and again at 7:24. Later in the game, Hostile Takeover scored at 1:33 and again with three seconds left in the half. Throughout the second half, Theta Tau only let in two more goals ending the game in a 6-0 win for Hostile Takeover.
Thursday, October 25 featured two extremely close games. The first game featured the Delta Sigma Phi (ΔΣΦ) and Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternities. The entire first half was defensive with constant back and forth plays. There were slim chances anyone could get anything past either goaltender.
Then, at 7:17 into the second half, the first goal of the game was scored by the TKEs, allowing them some breathing room while putting the pressure on the Delt Sigs offense. As time progressed, no one could get another goal, resulting in a 1-0 win for TKE.
The later game showcased the Blue Barracudas and Phi Sigma Phi (ΦΣΦ). At the 18:53 mark, the Phi Sigs struck first, until the Barracudas fired back at 3:44 to tie it up. The entire second half remained tied, taking the game into overtime. About halfway through the overtime, the Barracudas’ offense was able to break through the Phi Sigs’ defense and scored the game winning goal, 2-1 in OT.
Tonight, the Blue Barracudas will play the TKEs at 10:30pm, followed by Theta Tau and the Delt Sigs at 11:20pm. Then, on Thursday, November 1, the Sports Heroes and Phi Sigma Phi play at 10:30pm, followed by District 5 and Hostile Takeover, scheduled at 11:20pm.
