Broomball playoffs are finally here. On Tuesday, November 27, Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) played Theta Tau (ΘΤ) and the Blue Barracudas took on Phi Sigma Phi (ΦΣΦ) for the first round.
In the first game, the TKEs drew first blood after nine minutes of play, followed by their second goal six minutes later, going into halftime up 2-0. During the second half, Theta Tau started holding off the TKEs and eventually scored with 4:02 left in the game.
Theta Tau’s offense was looking for the second goal, but didn’t have that much luck as the game ended 2-1 with the TKE’s advancing to the quarter-finals.
In the late game, Phi Sigma Phi challenged the Blue Barracudas to for a spot in the quarterfinals but things began to look grim for the Phi Sigs when the Barracudas got the first goal of the game just fifteen seconds after faceoff.
The Phi Sigs pushed hard to tie things up, but their offense could not produce throughout the game, allowing the Blue Barracudas to win 1-0, giving them their quarter-final slot against TKE.
On Thursday, November 29, District 5 played the Sports Heroes and Delta Sigma Phi (ΔΣΦ) took on the Sports Heroes for the last two spots for the quarter finals.
In the first game, District 5 did their best to hold ground as the Sports Heroes opened up at 15:30, in the first half, with the first goal of the game. D5 had several scoring opportunities, but could not produce.
As the second half was underway, both teams had ample opportunities to score, but the defenses were putting up a real struggle. Then, with 4:57 and 3:03 left in the game, the Sports Heroes scored the final goals of the game, advancing to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory.
In the late game, the Delt Sigs and Hostile Takeover played a very close game. The Delt Sigs struck first at 14:16 and again at 11:12. Hostile Takeover started locking down their defense while their offense started to put on the pressure.
Within the last five minutes of the first half, Hostile Takeover scored two back-to-back goals at 4:34 and 3:43, tying the game at two. Once the second half got underway, it was a battle for the go-ahead goal, with constant back-and-forth play.
Then, with 8:14 left in the game, the Delt Sigs broke the tie, taking a 3-2 lead. Hostile Takeover switched gears to try and send it into overtime, but could not do so, as the Delt Sigs advanced.
The quarter finals start tonight, as Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) will play the Blue Barracudas at 10:30, followed by the Sports Heroes and the Delt Sigs at 11:20pm.
