The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team hasn’t won a match since late September.

But the Wolverines were finally able to change that to hadn’t this past weekend.

UM-Dearborn traveled to Houghton, New York, to participate in the Houghton College Tournament.

“We did a lot of great things at Houghton,” junior Megan Ynclan said. “We played as a team and were able to finish with a winning record of 3-1.”

The Wolverines played State University of New York Canton College of Technology on Friday in their first match. Their losing streak was extended to 12 after SUNY Canton won all three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 25-18.

After losing their first match, the Wolverines were able to rebound against Alfred State University. UM-Dearborn made quick work out of their opponents, winning 25-17, 25-20, and 25-19 in three sets.

Good fortunes continued for the Wolverines the next day.

The Wolverines were locked in a thrilling four-set match with Lycoming College to start the day off. UM-Dearborn were able to eventually edge the Warriors by scores of 25-16, 24-26, 19-25, 23-25.

In their final match of the day against tournament host Houghton College, the Wolverines found themselves in another four-set thriller. Just like before, the team was able to hang in the match, outlasting the Highlanders by scores of 25-17, 23-25, 26-28, 20-25.

The Wolverines returned to Michigan with a three game winning streak for the first time since mid-September. Now 10-27, only five games remain on UM-Dearborn’s schedule this season.

Marygrove College visits the UM-Dearborn fieldhouse on Tuesday, October 29 for Faculty Appreciation Night. The WHAC conference match starts at 7:00 PM.
