Not all of the residents of the University of Michigan – Dearborn’s new housing option, The Union at Dearborn, are actually students of the University, the Michigan Journal has learned through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Information acquired under the Freedom of Information Act has revealed that of the 448 residents of The Union, 20 residents are not students of the University of Michigan – Dearborn. Other academic institutions identified by those 20 residents include Eastern Michigan University, Henry Ford Community College, Macomb Community College, Wayne County Community College and Wayne State University.

The Union at Dearborn was announced as a housing option for students of the University of Michigan – Dearborn last year. Asset Campus Housing, the private housing company in charge of The Union, began allowing students to sign leases for the then-proposed apartments in November 2012 and opened its doors to its 448 residents on September 1, 2013.
