If Ice Cube was a University of Michigan-Dearborn athletics fan, he would probably say that it was a good week for the Wolverines.

The hockey team snapped its seven-game losing streak, upsetting No. 3 Adrian at the Fieldhouse. The men’s soccer team won two games to keep its playoff hopes alive (before being shattered by Cornerstone’s overtime win). And basketball has returned to the campus.

Another batch of athletes stood out as our UM-Dearborn Player of the Week candidates. Voting ends 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Who is your selection for the Michigan Journal's UM-Dearborn Player of the Week for Issue 10?

  • Jimmy Marchese — Hockey (56%, 141 Votes)
  • Jared Davidson — Wrestling (32%, 81 Votes)
  • Richard Hodnicki — Men's soccer (8%, 21 Votes)
  • Jalissa Williams — Women's basketball (3%, 7 Votes)
  • Colby DeMare — Volleyball (1%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 252

Jimmy Marchese — Hockey

Stats: Hat trick, game-winning goal in overtime vs. Adrian on Oct. 31

Jimmy Marchese, take a bow. Even if the hockey team lost to Adrian Friday, he still would have qualified for Player of the Week with a two-goal performance. But Marchese topped his already-impressive performance with a game-winning goal in overtime to give No. 3 Adrian its first loss of the year.

Jalissa Williams — Women’s basketball

Stats: 35 points, 11 rebounds vs. Spring Arbor on Nov. 1

If she could, Jalissa Williams would probably nab Player of the Week each week during basketball season. She proved why Saturday, dropping 35 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a five-point win over Spring Arbor.

Richard Hodnicki — Men’s soccer

Stats: Two goals, one assist combined vs. Lawrence Tech, Concordia (Oct. 29, Nov. 1)

The men’s soccer team needed two wins to keep its playoff hopes alive. Richard Hodnicki helped keep it alive with two goals and one assist against Lawrence Tech and Concordia. The freshman has been one of the Wolverines’ bright spots this fall.

Colby DeMare — Volleyball

Stats: 22 kills, 94 attacks in three games (Oct. 29, Nov. 1)

Maybe fifth time’s the charm for Colby DeMare, right? She’s been nominated for Player of the Week five times, and has come up short each time. She totaled 22 kills and 94 attacks in three games last week to earn the nomination once more.

Jared Davidson — Wrestling

Stats: Third-place finish in Fall Brawl (Nov. 2)

The Wolverines are quite familiar with the Fall Brawl tournament. Hassen Berry won the event two years ago, while Samer Shabek took third place in 2013. This year, Jared Davidson continued the trend with his third place finish.
