With the season winding down, two heavyweights of the WHAC squared off to determine playoff positioning.
On Oct. 29, Davenport narrowly edged out eleventh-ranked Northwestern Ohio by a 1-0 margin. It comes as no surprise the two teams that have been jockeying for top status all season long turned in such a close match.
With the win, No. 14 Davenport succeeded in giving the Racers their first conference loss. Each team has one game left to determine the final seed for the playoffs, which begin early November.
Not to be overlooked in the playoff picture is Madonna, who has also put together a nice season with an 13-4-1 overall record.
It also competed in a nail-biter game against Cleary University on Nov. 1, finally ending in a 1-1 tie — its first of the season.
The Crusaders are currently second in the conference with eight wins and two losses. They also have one match remaining against Concordia next Saturday.
After a slow start to the season, the University of Michigan-Dearborn has picked up the pace, winning its two most recent contests. The team defeated Lawrence Tech and Concordia by two goals each (2-0 and 4-2).
With its three wins this season, the Wolverines’ playoff hopes may be unrealistic, however; it looks to build on its successes for the near future and beyond.
