When you think of great places to eat sushi, you might think of the big places like Benihanas or chain-restaurants like Wasabi. Little did you possibly know that just five minutes from school is one of the best sushi places around. Located in Downtown Dearborn on Howard St. & Newman St. is JoA Sushi, an affordable and great place to eat.

The sushi isn’t exactly authentic, as it’s made by Koreans, but nonetheless it is delicious. JoA serves a variety of 68 rolls ranging from the typical California rolls to their own special tempura-style rolls. The prices are quite affordable ranging from $4-$13 for six to eight pieces, depending on the style chosen.

Everything is made behind the counter, but if you’re seated close to it you can watch the magic happen. Sushi is made fresh and quickly by the chefs and arranged in various designs. JoA would get an ‘A’ in presentation alone. The best part is if you happen to have a large order you can get it in a boat-shaped platter, which is fun in itself.

Other items on their menu include the standard noodles and teriyaki-type foods. The chicken is halal at the establishment, and you can even get yourself a chicken sushi roll.

If you’re on the go and need a quick fix, you can call in for takeout and pick it up at their location. However, I would recommend dining in, as the service is great.

JoA Sushi is located at 1041 Howard St. in Dearborn. They are open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fridays 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m.; Saturdays 12-10:30 p.m.; and Sundays 1-10 p.m.
