Navy (20-17) squeaked into the ACHA National Tournament as the last team in. Navy earned an auto-bid after winning the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association regular season title.

The top 20 teams in the nation make the tournament, however the auto-bids often disrupt that. This year three teams in the tournament did not finish ranked in the top 20, but made it in due to an auto-bid.

Navy and Mercyhurst were the last two teams in the tournament, and the only two teams who did not appear in the top 25 but made the tournament.

Navy ultimately received the 20th seed in the tournament, being the final team in the field.

During the regular season, Navy finished with a record of 3-11 against teams who finished in the top 25 in the ACHA’s national tournament rankings. The Midshipmen posted a record of 1-9 against teams who made the tournament this year. The lone win was a 2-1 victory over Syracuse, another auto-bid who finished 25th in the national tournament rankings. It was the first win of the year for Navy on the season.

Two of the losses for Navy against teams currently in the field came against the Wolverines. Who outscored the Midshipmen 14-5 in the two game series.

Navy was 17-6 against unranked opponents on the season, including losses to Lehigh, Rhode Island, Towson, Drexel, Army and Alabama.

Navy has a 10-8 record when playing away from its home ice.
