The Tau Kappa Epsilon – Rho Tau is holding their Brothers for Blues event Friday, March 25, from 7-10 p.m. at the Fairlane Center South. This event is a black tie fundraiser for the Dearborn Police Explorer Post 1177. Tickets are $45 or $320 for a full table.

Andrew Buzzeo, the chaplain of Rho Tau, said the idea to do this came up during a brainstorming meeting for a new type of fundraiser. Buzzeo said recent shootings gave the idea to show support for the Dearborn police department and the community and to break the fraternity stereotypes.

“We want to show we’re not just frat guys, the guys you see in movies,” Buzzeo said. “We hold ourselves to a higher standard.”

Buzzeo said the ultimate goal is to raise money to send as many cadets of the Dearborn Explorers to their Bi-annual National Explorer Training Conference in Flagstaff, Ariz. This conference consists of opportunities for cadets from ages 15 to 21 to receive training similar to regular police officers. Training includes defensive tactics, leadership skills and firearm training.

“We are working with the next generation of cops,” Buzzeo said. “We would like to further educate.”
