Amnesty International held a fundraiser on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at BD’s Mongolian Grill in Dearborn, Mich.

The Mongolian Grill fundraiser provides the organization with the most funds, according to Afifah Latif, President of Amnesty International.

Last year, the organization reaped $1,000 from the fundraiser, which all went as donations for Syrian refugees.

The main purpose of Amnesty International is to educate students about the human rights violations that take place domestically, locally and internationally.

Some of the issues that Amnesty International has focused on include the usage of drones, human trafficking and the Flint Water Crisis.

“I feel there’s always people who don’t have a voice, and I feel like if you have the privilege of working on someone’s behalf , I’m a big proponent of that,” Latif said.

Supporters of events held by the organization range from professors to students who try to be engaged depending on the topic that catches their interest.
