Valentine’s Day will be upon us in a couple weeks. Visions of flowers and romantic dinners will likely be on more than a few minds. A romantic dining experience is already on the mind of Johnny Subu.
Subu, along with his father, George Subu own and operate G. Subu’s Leather Bottle Restaurant in Livonia, Mich. It is a family business and the elder Subu started in the restaurant business as a chef in a Dearborn restaurant called The Topper.
The Subu’s have been operating the Leather Bottle since 2004. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and inviting with soft rock music playing gently in the background. The walls are adorned with paintings which resemble works from Europe’s Impressionist Era. With a fire blazing from the fireplace in the corner, it’s the perfect place for a romantic dinner.
Subu’s Leather Bottle is open for lunch Monday through Saturday, serving a variety of sandwiches and burgers and an array of fresh salads. A soup and sandwich combo is also featured along with lunchtime appetizers such as potato skins, stuffed mushroom and chicken fingers.
The dinner menu boasts quality fare such as cheese stuffed ravioli, grilled pork chops and fettuccini Alfredo. The filet mignon cooked medium is juicy and tender and melts in the mouth. Even a person who does not normally enjoy steak would be impressed. The spaghetti is saucy, flavorful and comes with three delicious meatballs.
The restaurant does accept reservations on a daily basis but they are not necessary. Johnny Subu says they are planning a special menu for Valentine’s Day featuring a lobster tail combo and prime rib. For Valentine’s Day and other special occasions, reservations are recommended. The restaurant features a dining area, a bar and a banquet room. If you enjoy Italian cuisine, stop in for dinner at the Leather Bottle in Livonia. Your taste buds will thank you.
