(Wolverines unable to overcome Bulldogs)
The Wolverines played a home and home series this week against the No. 2 Adrian College Bulldogs. The Wolverines lost Thursday night in Adrian 7-3 and at home Friday 4-1. This gives the wolverines a record of 9-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference(WHAC). Adrian College improves to 14-0 overall with the wins.
The series started Thursday night in Adrian, Michigan with the Wolverines starting behind the puck in the first period going down 2-0 with scores by Domenic Moore, and Mike Finger. Both goals by the Bulldogs were unassisted.
The second period would see a major jump in scoring as the Bulldogs would score five more times and the Wolverines would get on the scoreboard with two goals of their own. The Bulldogs got goals from Mike Finger (2), Jordan Oshowy, and Rainer Glimpel. The Bulldog goals were assisted by Brad Kobryn, Josh Hosking (2), and Joe Costello (2).
The Wolverines scored two goals in the second period by Tyler Groat (JR/ Wyandotte, Michigan), and John Barlow (JR/ Shelby Twp, Michigan).
The third period was also filled with scoring by both teams. The Wolverines added a goal by Nic LaBurn (JR/ Northville, Michigan) assisted by Jared Dedenbach (JR/ Warren, Michigan) and Kevin Bechard (JR/ Trenton, Michigan).
The Bulldogs also scored in the third period making the score 7-3 which was also the final score. Rainer Glimel added his second goal for the Bulldogs with assists by Domenic Moore and Marcus Rose.
The Wolverines would use Thomas Proudlock (JR/ Southgate, Michigan) and Adam Ranck (SO/ West Bloomfield, Michigan) in the game. Proudlock made 18 saves on the 22 shots he faced in his 29 minutes of play. Ranck made nine saves on the 12 shots he faced in the 31 minutes he played.
This was not a clean game though, with the teams combining for 93 minutes of penalties. 71 of those penalty minutes coming in the third period to several players from both teams.
The Wolverines would welcome the Bulldogs to the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse Friday night. The rink was rocking with fans from both schools cheering their teams on. The Bulldogs showed early and often why they were the No. 2 team in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League(GLCHL). The Bulldogs used the boards to their benefit all throughout the game and their sticks found the pucks all night long.
The scoring would be started early by the Wolverines Justin Dunn (SO/ Trenton, Michigan). He was assisted by Nic LaBurn on the power play goal. The Bulldogs would answer shortly afterwards with a goal from Brad Kobryn with an assist by Joe Costello.
The Bulldogs would score two more goals in the second period by Jordan Oshowy, and Joe Costello. The Bulldogs would put the icing on the cake in the final minute of play getting an empty net goal on a breakaway to make the score 4-1 which was also the final score.
Adam Ranck made 29 saves in the game.
This game was also plagued by penalties as well but only a handful this game leading to two of the goals scored one by each team.
The Wolverines will play again on December first at 7:30 pm at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. They bring in Aquinas College in a NAIA contest.
