(Men’s Basketball defeat Concordia, Lose to Eastern Michigan in Exhibition )
The Wolverines traveled to Ann Arbor Tuesday night to take on the men of Concordia University. The Wolverines won the game 68-59.
The UM-Dearborn Wolverines were led in scoring with two double-doubles. The first coming from Mafiaion Joyner (JR/ Battle Creek, Michigan) who scored 16 points and 10 rebounds. Joyner also added a block and two steals. Joyner also made a perfect four for four from the free throw line.
Jason Penn (SR/ Detroit, Michigan) scored 14 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, four assists, and a block with the second double-double.
Gage Throgmorton (SR/ White Lake, Michigan) made his first appearance of the season scoring 12 points by making four 3-pointers. Throgmorton added a block, and a steal. Not to be outdone Ashton Curd (SR/ Detroit, Michigan) scored 11 points including making a 3-pointer, and six of seven from the free throw line. Curd also had two rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
The Cardinals leading scorer was Jared McDaniel with 17 points.
The Wolverines traveled to Ypsilanti, Michigan on Sunday afternoon to take on the Eastern Michigan University Eagles. Eastern is an NCAA Division I team and this was an exhibition game. The Eagles dominated the game and won 97-73.
The game took place at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti in front of 774 people. This was one of the largest crowds the UM-Dearborn Wolverines would see all season. The Wolverines played extremely tough in the first half but lost momentum in the second to the might of the Eagles.
Gage Throgmorton made his presence felt early and often in this game as he scored a season high 22 points. Throgmorton made six from 3-point range, four rebounds, a steal, and two assists.
Jason Penn would not be denied in the middle Sunday adding 18 points of his own. Penn also had seven rebounds, a block, and two steals. Ashton Curd and Cody Kegley (SO/ Yale, Michigan) each added nine points. Curd also had four rebounds, a steal, and eight assists. Kegley also added a rebound, a steal, and six assists.
The Wolverines will once again take on a NCAA Division I opponent when they travel to Detroit Monday to take on the University of Detroit-Mercy at 7pm. This game will take place at Callaghan Hall.
