Commencement for the Fall 2017 semester will take place on Dec. 16.
The ceremony for the College of Engineering and Computer Science and College of Business will begin at 10 a.m., with the Fieldhouse doors opening at 8:30 a.m. For those in the College of Education, Health and Human Services, and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters, the ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. in the Fieldhouse with doors opening at 1:30 p.m.
Each ceremony will have its own guest speaker. According to the University of Michigan-Dearborn website, the speaker for the first ceremony will be Suneel Gupta, a graduate from UM-Dearborn’s 2000 class who served as his class’s commencement speaker. Gupta is a visiting scholar at Harvard University, a former vice president of product development at Groupon, and the co-founder and former CEO of Rise (a healthcare service).
The afternoon ceremony speaker will be Farhan Latif, a 2005 graduate of UM-Dearborn who earned a degree in business management. He is the president of the El-Hibri Foundation, which “focuses on advancing inclusion in America through grant-making.” Latif founded Strategic Inspirations, a social impact consulting firm. He’s also appeared on news outlets such as ABC, FOX, BBC, New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and many more.
