SMART Transportation will now be offering a new route to connect Downtown Detroit to Detroit Metropolitan Airport with numerous stops along Michigan Avenue. The route is a part of the FAST service SMART provides, which stands for “Frequent Affordable Safe Transit.”

Some of the stops in Dearborn will be on Schaefer Road, Greenfield Road, Mason Street, Outer Drive, and Dearborn Transit Center on Elm Street. Those taking this route to the airport have the option of exiting at both the McNamara or North airport terminals. The name of the route is “FAST Michigan” and is number 261.

The service began on Jan. 1. The fare will be the same as the regular SMART service, which is $2 one-way, and each transfer is 25 cents.

The FAST buses will offer free WiFi and will take approximately one hour one-way. There will be about 30 minutes between each bus and run from 5 a.m. until midnight during the week, with shorter hours on the weekend. Service on FAST bus route will be free until Jan. 15.
