The Wolverines are heading to the field as the men’s lacrosse team gets ready for the new season.  This winter will be the teams third season as an official National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Varsity team.

The Wolverines are lead by Head Coach and alumni Jason Watts. The team is looking to come out at full strength during the season opener against Olivet College on Feb. 9.

Last season’s opener against Oakland University ended in a 9-4 win for the Wolverines.

Watts will be returning for his 14th season as Head Coach, accompanied by Assistant Coaches Mike Wagner (13 years), Matthew Laurinec (2 years), and David Stephanoff (2 years).

The team is strengthened by seven incoming freshman. The team is rounded out by five juniors and five seniors.

The Wolverines will host home games at Detroit Country Day in Beverly Hills, MI. Some of the teams they will face include four teams that qualified in 2017 for the NAIA Men’s Lacrosse National Invitational (Lawrence Technological University, Lourdes University, Indiana Institute of Technology, and the University of St. Mary Kansas).

Following spring break, the Wolverines head to Kentucky for a showdown with Union College and the University of the Cumberlands. Afterwards the team returns home for five consecutive games.

The non-conference games include matches against Benedictine College, the University of St. Mary (Kansas), Savannah College of Art and Design,  and Montreat College.

These five non-conference games will be followed up by the Wolverine-Hoosier-Athletic Conference season against 2017 NAIA qualifier Lawrence Tech. The big game will be at 2 p.m on March 31.

The UM-Dearborn team ended last season with a record of 5- 6 for the regular season.

The opener will be at the Detroit Country Day field house at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 in Beverly Hills, MI.
