The UM-Dearborn men’s basketball team kept it rolling with a win against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (70-61). This improves the team to 15-10 overall and 10-5 in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
The Wolverines got out to an early lead but the Blue Devils cut it to two points and made it a close game going into halftime (33-31). The Wolverines got a huge boost as senior Jason Penn early in the first half as he scored his 1500th point, becoming the fourth Wolverine to score 1500 points.
The Blue Devils took the lead early in the second half, but halfway through the Wolverines surged back with 10 unanswered points to regain the lead. They maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.
The second half belonged to junior Xavier Crofford who came into the night only 20 points shy of 1000 points. Crofford had three points in the first half, but scored a whopping 17 points in the second half. He is the tenth Wolverine to reach this amount for the men’s basketball team.
Crofford led the team in scoring with his record winning 20-point performance. He also had five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Senior Gage Throgmorton scored 18 points for the Wolverines all from 3-point range. He made 6 of his 11 attempts from downtown. Throgmorton also contributed with six rebounds, three assists and a block.
Jason Penn had 14 points for the Wolverine, including making 2 of 3 from the free throw line. He also had six rebounds and a block.
The leading scorers for the Blue Devils were Devonte Myles with 20 points and Ty’rese Searles who scored 17 points.
The Wolverines will return home to the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. where they will play No. 5 Indiana Tech in a huge WHAC game.
