On October 4, the Office of Student Life (OSL) will have their second annual Homecoming Tailgate from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. It will take place right before the homecoming hockey game, which will be played in the Fieldhouse from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hockey team will be facing off against the Lindenwood Lions from Lindenwood University, the second of a back-to-back game against the Lions.
According to Darrius Hicks, the OSL Student Assistant, the Homecoming Tailgate will “include free food, yard games, raffle prizes, and also walk around takeaways.” This will be an opportunity to meet up with your fellow students, staff, and learn more of what the OSL has to offer for students on campus during events like this.
Hicks says, “The Homecoming Tailgate originated last year and the Office of Student Life plans to keep this a new tradition and build upon it every year.” From this, it looks like the OSL could add more events and activities to the annual tailgate. This is potentially one of the most exciting events of homecoming week.
Hicks is providing a helping hand in growing the tradition whenever it’s needed. “I am a Student Assistant for the Office of Student Life so I help where I can whether it be space request, helping with set up, and overall making sure the event runs smoothly,” says Hicks. He also says that students can expect “to have a new tradition on campus where you can come and wrap up homecoming week and enjoy a fun time with friends, faculty, and alumni as well.”
The OSL, according to Hicks, does not plan to do any other tailgates outside of the present homecoming tradition.
If anyone, such as new students are wondering what the Office of Student Life has to offer in the future, Hicks says “The best way to learn more about our programs is to follow our social media on Instagram and also become a member on VictorsLink as we send out emails to everyone from there as well on the new stuff happening on campus from our office.”
You can locate Office of Student Life on VictorsLink simply by searching their name. If you prefer social media, their Instagram handle is @umdearbornosl and Facebook page is listed at UM-Dearborn Office of Student Life.
