Tis the season for pumpkin spice lattes, apple cider donuts, and Netflix and chills!

This Halloween, Netflix is releasing a mixture of new (and old) movies and TV series each week leading up to the holiday. Netflix even has a section completely dedicated to Halloween, sorted into different categories, ranging from the classic, critically acclaimed movies to binge-worthy television shows and science-fiction. Here’s a guide to some of the films and television shows you should watch. Grab your popcorn and blanket and prepare for some scares!

Available On Netflix Now:

American Psycho – Chill Factor 4/10

If you’re looking for a good satirical psychological horror movie, this is it. Based off of Bret Easton Ellis’ 1991 novel of the same name, this film is about Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) who is a wealthy New York investment banker by day, and a violent serial killer by night. Bale gives a chilling performance as the insane Bateman that’ll make you think twice before you flaunt your business card to your colleagues (you’ll get the joke after you watch it).

The Conjuring – Chill Factor 7/10

This 2013 supernatural horror film follows the real life story of two paranormal investigators, Lorraine and Ed Warren, who are summoned to the home of the Perron family. A series of frightening paranormal activities begin to take over the family’s home, and soon the Warrens find out about the horrific history of the home. This film includes lots of classic jump scares that’ll definitely give you a fright.

Terrifier – Chill Factor 8/10

If you’re terrified of clowns, then you might want to avoid Terrifier. This film follows Art the Clown, a homicidal clown who terrorizes two women and their relatives on Halloween night. If you’re looking for a good clown slasher flick, this is the movie for you!

Dexter – Chill Factor 3/10

Now if you’re looking for a good crime drama series, check out Dexter. Based off of Jeff Lindsay’s novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter, this show follows Dexter Morgan, a forensic technician who specializes in blood spatter pattern analysis. However, Dexter lives a double as a serial killer who hunts down murderers that haven’t yet been caught by police- the same police he works with everyday. The show has eight hair-raising seasons and definitely won’t disappoint.

The Haunting of Hill House – Chill Factor 7/10

This is another series that is very binge-worthy. The Haunting of Hill House tells the story of a family living in a haunted house – and the events that led them to flee their home. With only one season out so far, and the second on the way in 2020, now is the best time to catch up before its release. Side note: be prepared for plenty of jump scares!

This horror film is about 17-year-old Cassie, who develops a tight relationship with an Artificial Intelligence personal assistant following the death of her mother. However, Cassie’s A.I. friend begins to manipulate her, leading her to commit many acts of murder.

If you’re a Stephen King fan, then this is right down your alley! Based off of King’s horror novella of the same name, the story follows two siblings who rescue a young boy that gets lost in a field. But what lies lurking in the field is something purely evil.
