Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re anything like me, you have probably been putting off getting your costume. But no worries if you still have no clue what you’re going to be this year- here are some easy and inexpensive DIY costumes that are perfect for procrastinators.
If you’re still not over the Area 51 raid, be the alien that you’ve always wanted to free. For this costume, you just need some clothing that is metallic, holographic or galaxy print. If you don’t own any of these prints, I suggest hitting up your local Forever 21 or Hot Topic. You will also need a glittery antenna headband, which you can find for $1.25 on Amazon. For your makeup, you want your highlight to be out of this world! To achieve the perfect celestial vibe, use loose glitter ($6.99 on Amazon) for your highlight. Top the look off with some space buns and you are ready to cruise the cosmos.
- Sheet Ghost
This is a classic Halloween costume that you don’t see anymore- let’s change that! All you need for this costume is a white sheet. This can be found in your linen closet or at the Salvation Army if you don’t have one. Grab a pair of scissors to mark where your eyes will go and voila, you’re a sheet ghost!
- Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly
Timeless elegance at its finest, you’re sure to turn heads in this costume. For this look, you will a black dress. If you don’t already own one, ask a friend or take a visit to the Salvation Army. Next, you will need long black gloves, which can be found on Amazon for $7.99. You’ll also need a string of pearls and a tiara, which you can at Claire’s or Icing for pretty cheap. Lastly, you will need a fake cigarette holder, which you can find on Amazon for $4.99. Pin your hair up, add your tiara, and don’t forget a peachy pink lipstick like Audrey wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
- Georgie from It
As Georgie, you’ll float around in the coolest pop-culture costume at your friend’s Halloween party. For this costume, you need four simple items: a yellow raincoat, rain boots, a red balloon, and the S.S. Georgie. Once again, Amazon for the win with several raincoat options under $10. If you can’t get your hands on a pair of rain boots, substitute with a pair of sneakers. I’m sure Pennywise won’t notice the difference. There are tons of YouTube videos with instructions on how to create your very own S.S. Georgie if origami doesn’t come naturally to you. Lastly, find a party store with red balloons and you are guaranteed to bring the party to any sewer you find yourself in.
Ah yes, another Halloween favorite, the vampire. This costume is probably the easiest one to pull off. Find your fangs at Target for $3.75 along with fake blood in either a spray or regular liquid bottle, both for $4.50. Search your closet for dark colors like black, purple, burgundy, or red. Do your makeup pale or keep it normal, just don’t forget to add a trail of fake blood dripping from your mouth. For a safe night, stay away from garlic and stakes.
Halloween is on a Thursday this year and it’d be awesome to see a little bit of Halloween spirit in the halls of UMD that day.
