The No. 22 University of Michigan-Dearborn women’s basketball team continued early-season play this week with a game against Wright State University-Lake Campus on Friday.

The contest was the home opener for the Wolverines after they started the season last week with two wins at the Blue Devil Classic.

Against the Lakers, the outcome was never in doubt. UM-Dearborn jumped out to a 28-6 lead in the first quarter and dominated the rest of the way to win 94-48. Junior Maricela Macias led the team with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals off the bench. She also drained four three-pointers.

The Wolverines controlled the entire game on both sides of the floor. After leading 28-6 after the first, they never let up and outscored the Lakers in the second and third quarters 25-14 and 27-10, respectively. They shot 46.8% from the field and 42.9% from three. The bench also stepped up big, scoring 50 bench points.

UM-Dearborn outrebounded Wright State 36-25 and won the points in the battle convincingly 34-16. They also forced a whopping 31 turnovers and scored 44 points off those turnovers.

Along with Macias, freshman Rachel Bause also came off the bench to contribute 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

The starters also performed at a high-level. Junior Cydney Williams scored 14 points and added three steals. Junior Lauryn Carroll stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Freshman Jasia Caldwell added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.
