Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X Come to Life in The Meeting

OSE’s production of The Meeting debuted on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Kochoff Hall. The stage play written in 1987 by Jeff Stetson, dramatized meeting between influential Civil Rights Movement leaders Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

AAAS Department and The Black Student Union hosts Poetry Slam in honor of MLK

On Wednesday, January 22, the African and African American Studies Department (AAAS) and the Black Student Union will be hosting a Poetry Slam in celebration of MLK Week. The MLK Week Poetry Slam is set to take place at 6:00 p.m. in room 1071 of the CASL Building. Students are being encouraged by BSU to participate in this year’s Poetry Slam. AAAS is requesting that the poems be fitting for the occasion, something related to Dr. King’s legacy, struggle, racism, Civil Rights, or Human Rights.

Martin Luther King Week of Celebration

As we begin the winter semester, the University of Michigan-Dearborn is celebrating the twenty-first anniversary of Martin Luther King Day of Service, one of our biggest and most cherished campus traditions. Starting Monday the week of January 20, 2014, over 400 student volunteers from our very own campus and Henry Ford Community college will be turning a day off into a day of service along with historical informational services each day for the rest of that week. Students will be dispersed throughout the metropolitan Detroit area to support local community businesses in fulfilling their valuable missions.
